On January 17, 1781, the Battle of Cowpens marked a turning point in the American Revolutionary War. Fought in South Carolina, the engagement saw General Daniel Morgan lead Continental forces to a decisive victory over British troops commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton. This triumph significantly weakened British influence in the South and shaped military strategies across the Carolinas, including the area that would later become Wake County.
Centuries later, on January 17, 2024, Wake County celebrated its heritage with an event titled Cotton: The Dream and Hope of the Slave. This program honored the lives and resilience of African-American slaves through spirituals, art, and narratives, providing a thoughtful reflection on the region’s historical connection to slavery and its enduring cultural impact.
From Revolutionary War victories to modern commemorations of its rich and complex history, January 17th underscores the profound historical and cultural significance of Wake County.

A Look at the Wake County Real Estate Market
Wake County, North Carolina, has solidified its position as one of the most vibrant real estate markets in the United States. With robust economic growth, abundant job opportunities, and an exceptional quality of life, the region attracts homebuyers and investors.
Home prices in Wake County have experienced consistent growth over the past few years. This upward trend is driven by high demand and limited housing inventory. The Raleigh-Durham area’s appeal, fueled by job opportunities in technology, healthcare, and education, has further escalated housing costs.
A defining feature of the market is the persistent shortage of available homes. This scarcity has intensified competition with many properties receiving multiple offers shortly after being listed. Sellers frequently benefit from bidding wars, further driving up prices.
Urban centers like Raleigh remain popular, but suburban communities such as Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, and Wake Forest are experiencing significant growth. These areas attract buyers with family-friendly environments, top-tier schools, and spacious properties.
The rental market in Wake County is booming. With rising home prices, many residents are opting to rent, increasing demand for apartments and single-family homes. This trend has encouraged developers to focus on multi-family housing projects.
Wake County’s thriving economy is underpinned by industries like technology, research, and healthcare. The presence of Research Triangle Park—a hub for innovation and employment—draws talent from across the nation.
The area’s temperate climate, excellent school systems, and ample recreational options contribute to an outstanding quality of life. These factors make Wake County an attractive destination for families, retirees, and young professionals.
Additionally, Wake County’s population has been steadily increasing as people are drawn to the region’s economic opportunities and lifestyle. This population growth has sustained the demand for housing.
Rising home prices are creating affordability challenges for many residents. First-time homebuyers, in particular, face difficulties entering the market due to increasing costs and intense competition.
While new developments aim to address the housing shortage, supply chain disruptions and labor shortages have delayed construction timelines, further straining inventory levels.
Higher mortgage rates have impacted affordability for buyers. Even slight increases in interest rates can significantly affect purchasing power, particularly for budget-conscious buyers.
Wake County’s strong economic base and growing population make it an attractive market for real estate investors. Rental properties offer promising returns due to high demand and rising rental rates.
As established areas become more expensive, buyers are turning to emerging neighborhoods that provide affordability and growth potential. These areas often benefit from new infrastructure and amenities.
There is increasing demand for sustainable and energy-efficient homes. Developers who incorporate green building practices and smart home technology can attract environmentally conscious buyers.
The Wake County real estate market is expected to maintain its strength in the coming years, driven by continued economic growth and population influx. Addressing challenges like affordability and inventory shortages will be essential for sustaining the market’s momentum.
For buyers, sellers, and investors alike, understanding these market dynamics is crucial for making informed decisions. With strategic planning and a clear understanding of the trends, opportunities abound in Wake County’s thriving real estate market.

This Week’s Health Tip
Natural Solutions for Athlete’s Foot Relief
Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection that affects the skin on the feet, often causing discomfort and persistence. It thrives in warm, moist environments, making gym locker rooms, swimming pools, and sweaty shoes ideal for fungal growth. While over-the-counter antifungal treatments are readily available, many people prefer natural solutions. Below are several effective remedies to soothe symptoms and address the infection naturally.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is well-known for its antifungal and antimicrobial qualities. To use, dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil. Apply the mixture directly to the affected areas twice daily. Regular use can reduce itching and inflammation while combating the fungus.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar’s acidity creates an environment hostile to fungal growth. Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water in a basin, then soak your feet for 15-20 minutes daily. Be sure to thoroughly dry your feet afterward to prevent further fungal growth.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is a natural antifungal agent and an effective deodorizer for feet. Create a paste by mixing 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda with water. Apply the paste to the affected areas, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.
Garlic
Garlic contains allicin, a compound with potent antifungal properties. Crush a few cloves of garlic and mix them with coconut oil to form a paste. Apply the paste to the affected areas and let it sit for 20-30 minutes before rinsing. Repeat daily until symptoms subside.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contains caprylic acid and lauric acid, both of which have antifungal properties. Additionally, it soothes irritation and moisturizes the skin. Apply coconut oil directly to the affected areas two to three times a day to relieve symptoms.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera’s natural soothing and antifungal properties make it an excellent remedy. Use pure aloe vera gel on the affected areas, leaving it on to reduce redness, itching, and inflammation while combating the fungus.
Saltwater Soak
Saltwater can help dry out blisters and inhibit fungal growth. Dissolve a few tablespoons of sea salt in warm water and soak your feet for 15-20 minutes daily. Ensure your feet are completely dry afterward to prevent further issues.
Neem Oil
Neem oil is an ancient remedy celebrated for its antifungal and antibacterial effects. Massage a small amount of neem oil into the affected areas two to three times daily. You can mix it with coconut oil for extra hydration and added benefits.
Natural treatments are effective, but prevention is key to keeping athlete’s foot at bay:
Keep your feet clean and dry, especially between the toes.
Opt for breathable shoes and moisture-wicking socks.
Avoid walking barefoot in public areas like locker rooms and pools.
Rotate your shoes to allow them to dry out fully between uses.
Use antifungal powders or sprays in your footwear if you’re prone to infections.
Natural remedies can work well for mild cases, but severe or persistent infections may require professional medical attention. If symptoms worsen or fail to improve after a few weeks, seek advice from a healthcare provider.
By integrating these natural solutions and preventive strategies into your daily routine, you can effectively address athlete’s foot while minimizing reliance on synthetic treatments.
This Week’s Recipe From Our Kitchen To Yours!
Million Dollar Pie Recipe
Indulge in the creamy, sweet, and tangy flavors of Million Dollar Pie, a no-bake dessert that's as rich and delicious as it sounds. Perfect for potlucks, family gatherings, or whenever you need an easy crowd-pleaser!
Ingredients:
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (8-ounce) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
½ cup maraschino cherries, chopped (optional)
½ cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
2 (9-inch) graham cracker pie crusts (You can use 2 prebaked homemade flour crusts which I prefer.)
Instructions:
Mix the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, whipped topping, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth and creamy.
Add the Extras: Gently fold in the drained crushed pineapple, shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and maraschino cherries (if using).
Assemble the Pies: Divide the filling evenly between the two graham cracker pie crusts, spreading it out smoothly with a spatula.
Chill: Cover the pies with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the filling to set.
Serve: Slice and serve chilled. Optionally, garnish with extra whipped topping, a sprinkle of coconut, or a cherry on top for decoration.
Notes:
For a lighter version, use low-fat or fat-free sweetened condensed milk and whipped topping.
This pie freezes well! Wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
Enjoy the irresistible flavors of Million Dollar Pie—a dessert worth every bite!
