Person Pulled From Creek Along Capital Boulevard

A person was pulled from Marsh Creek along Capital Boulevard in Raleigh on Thursday afternoon. Emergency responders, including Raleigh police and fire teams, quickly arrived at the scene near the Exxon Mobil gas station. The individual’s condition remains unknown, and authorities are still investigating the incident. Details surrounding how the person ended up in the creek have not been released. The situation is ongoing.

Record Low

Over the years, Wake County, North Carolina, has experienced several record-low temperatures, with the most notable occurring on January 21, 1985, when Raleigh-Durham International Airport recorded a chilling -9°F (-23°C).

In more recent years, temperatures have been cold, but not to the extreme. For example, on January 8, 2025, Raleigh's low temperature was 23°F (-5°C).

Winters in Wake County are generally mild, with average highs between 47°F and 53°F (8°C to 12°C) and lows around freezing or just below. Occasionally, temperatures may fall to the 15°F to 20°F (-9°C to -7°C) range.

While extreme cold is uncommon, these record lows serve as a reminder that unexpected cold snaps can still occur in the region.
