Enjoy Our New Featured Section!🆕🎈 Our “Did You Know Section” About North Carolina

Fayetteville, North Carolina

Fayetteville, North Carolina, is rich in history, with significant events from both the American Revolution and the Civil War.

During the Revolutionary War, Fayetteville played an important role, particularly with the Fayetteville Armory. In 1781, British forces, led by General Cornwallis, passed through the area. The town also became a key location for General Nathanael Greene, a leader of the Continental Army, who used it as a base after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. It was here that Greene regrouped his troops, further cementing Fayetteville’s strategic importance during the war.

In the Civil War, Fayetteville was a key manufacturing hub for the Confederacy. The Fayetteville Arsenal produced vital munitions and supplies for Confederate forces. In 1865, just days before the war ended, Union troops under General William T. Sherman captured the town. On April 10, 1865, Confederate forces withdrew, and the Union took control, marking the end of Confederate resistance in North Carolina.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Fayetteville is the Market House, built in 1832. This building once served as the heart of commerce and trade in the town. Today, it stands as a symbol of Fayetteville’s early importance and history, and it remains a central point of historical pride.

These key events highlight Fayetteville’s role in shaping both North Carolina’s and the nation’s history, from its Revolutionary War involvement to its place in the Civil War.

Unwined

A Great Place To Relax With Friends!

Amy and Brian Burkhardt, along with their oldest daughter, Jana are the heart and soul behind Unwined on White where wellness and community are blended most enjoyably. Unwined is a unique space, including the town’s only rooftop bar, where you can find your zen in yoga or pilates classes, relish fine wines and craft beer, and connect with like-minded folks.

Amy is an attorney turned small business owner and her husband Brian has had a career in Finance and Supply Chain Management roles. Amy selects the wine they offer while her husband enjoys getting to know the local beer in this area. To keep her wine selection fresh, Amy buys from small, organic family-owned vineyards from all over the world. Visiting the lounge, you will find an excellent selection of moderately priced wines and a variety of local craft beer, ciders & seltzers. Crossing into the studio space, Jana along with several other instructors have a diverse and welcoming array of yoga and pilates classes seven days a week with various membership and class package options.

Unwined is also well known for a plethora of events that can be found on our website: unwinednc.com, either Instagram, Facebook, subscribing to our twice-monthly newsletter. We have a Wine Club and Book Club that meet monthly as well as regular wine tastings on the first Friday of the month and beer tastings on the 3rd Friday. Friday Fun Flows are on the 4th Friday, vary in theme and typically include a beverage and/or snack option allowing the yoga participants a chance to enjoy time together afterward.

We are very excited for our Valentine’s Sip & Shop event featuring many local artisans on February 8th from 1-5 pm, Tango and Tempranillo - a fun dance lesson session that includes a bottle of wine.

The Importance of Fiber in the Diet

Fiber is a crucial component of a healthy diet, yet it's often overlooked despite its numerous health benefits. Found in plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, fiber plays a significant role in maintaining overall well-being.

One of the most important benefits of fiber is its ability to support digestive health. It adds bulk to the stool, which helps prevent constipation and promotes regular bowel movements. Fiber also plays a key role in managing weight, as high-fiber foods are typically more filling, reducing hunger and helping with portion control.

In addition to digestive health, fiber contributes to heart health. Soluble fiber, found in foods like oats, beans, and apples, can help lower cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease. Fiber also helps regulate blood sugar levels, making it beneficial for people with diabetes or those at risk of developing the condition.

Furthermore, fiber supports gut health by feeding beneficial gut bacteria, which in turn enhances immune function and improves the body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

To reap the benefits of fiber, it's essential to include a variety of high-fiber foods in the diet. Experts recommend that adults aim for at least 25 to 30 grams of fiber per day, but most people fall short. Increasing fiber intake gradually and drinking plenty of water can help avoid digestive discomfort and ensure a smooth transition to a fiber-rich diet.

Incorporating more fiber into your meals can have a positive impact on both your digestive system and overall health, making it a vital part of any balanced diet.

We value your input.
