Was Abraham Lincoln Born in North Carolina?
For generations, school children across the United States have been taught that Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, was born on February 12, 1809, in a humble log cabin in Hardin County (now LaRue County), Kentucky. However, a passionate group of local historians and residents firmly believe otherwise in Rutherford County, North Carolina. They argue that Lincoln’s true birthplace lies near the small town of Bostic, North Carolina.
The claim that Abraham Lincoln was born in North Carolina is not new. According to local lore, Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Hanks, was living in Rutherford County when she became pregnant with Abraham. Some believe that she was sent away to Kentucky, where she later married Thomas Lincoln. The theory suggests that Abraham was actually born in North Carolina and only later moved to Kentucky, where official records were established.
One of the main proponents of this theory is the Bostic Lincoln Center Museum, a small but dedicated institution located in Bostic, NC. The museum serves as a hub for research and evidence supporting the North Carolina birth theory. It showcases historical documents, genealogical records, and oral histories passed down through generations of local families who maintain that Lincoln’s origins trace back to Rutherford County.

Why New Construction Might Be a Smart Move in a High-Rate Market
It’s no secret that interest rates are higher than they’ve been in recent years, and that has some buyers feeling hesitant about making a move. But if you’re concerned about rates, new construction could be a great option. Many builders offer incentives to help make homeownership more affordable—such as money toward closing costs, rate buy-downs, or even special financing options on closeout homes they want to sell quickly. These perks can make a significant difference in your monthly payment, helping to offset the impact of higher rates.
One major advantage of buying new construction is the flexibility in how you use builder incentives. For example, if a builder is offering $10,000 toward closing costs, that money can be applied to reduce the amount of cash you need at closing, or even to buy down your interest rate—either permanently or through a temporary 1-2 year rate reduction, which lowers your payments upfront. Additionally, while builders are often hesitant to lower the home’s price (as that affects the neighborhood’s overall value), they may instead offer upgrades at no extra cost, like blinds, a washer and dryer, or even a refrigerator. These incentives can add up!
One important thing to remember: never visit a new construction community for the first time without your own representation. Many builders require you to have your agent with you on your first visit, or you could unknowingly forfeit your ability to have an agent advocate for you throughout the process. Having a buyer’s agent costs you nothing—builders factor commission into their pricing regardless—so you won’t get a better deal by going in alone. Instead, you’ll have a professional looking out for your best interests every step of the way.
If you’ve been holding off on buying because of rates, exploring new construction could be the right move. With builder incentives, potential rate reductions, and brand-new, low-maintenance homes, it’s worth considering—especially in today’s market. The towns of Apex and Cary, North Carolina, continue to experience rapid residential growth as part of the ever-expanding Research Triangle region. With new developments shaping both communities, homebuyers have an increasing number of options, from modern mixed-use communities to luxury homes.
New Residential Developments in Apex, NC
Veridea: A Transformational Mixed-Use Project
One of the largest and most ambitious developments in Apex is Veridea, a massive mixed-use community that will integrate residential neighborhoods with retail, office spaces, and green spaces. The goal of this project is to create a self-sustaining community where residents can live, work, and enjoy recreation without needing to leave the area.
Expanding Housing Options
Apex is currently home to approximately 275 new home communities, catering to a range of budgets and lifestyles. Prices start at $249,000, with the average home selling for around $543,973. Builders such as M/I Homes, Lennar, and D.R. Horton are actively constructing modern homes that feature energy-efficient designs, open floor plans, and smart home technology.

South Hills Mall Redevelopment: A New Urban Hub
One of the most anticipated projects in Cary is the transformation of the South Hills Mall & Plaza into a vibrant mixed-use development. The project includes 4.5 million square feet of residential, retail, and office space alongside a state-of-the-art sports recreation center. Funded by a $75 million Wake County grant, the center is designed to host youth and collegiate sports events, adding a dynamic new element to the area.
Luxury and Custom Homes on the Rise
Cary’s housing market is thriving, with around 314 new home communities under development. Home prices start at $249,000, but the average cost of new construction homes in Cary has risen to $1,264,660, reflecting the area's growing demand for high-end housing. The market is driven by builders such as M/I Homes, Beazer Homes, and Stanley Martin Homes, offering luxury homes with high-end finishes and customizable features.
Active Development and Expansion
Rolesville, one of the fastest-growing towns in North Carolina, is seeing significant new residential development. The town's planning department regularly reviews new development applications, signaling strong growth while maintaining a commitment to preserving the town’s community-oriented charm.
Diverse Housing Options
Rolesville boasts 226 new home communities, with home prices starting at $223,990. The variety of housing options—from townhomes to large single-family homes—caters to different budgets and lifestyles. Major builders like D.R. Horton, Eastwood Homes, and Dan Ryan Builders are contributing to the town’s growing housing inventory.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and served some years as a finance officer in the Air Force. I then got a Masters in Human Services Counseling and ran a life coaching business for a few years along with teaching Elementary math at the private school attached to our local church. I have enjoyed all the things I’ve been able to put my hands to in both my educational and vocational endeavors, but nothing compares to partnering with my clients (local small business owners) and helping their businesses to stay complaint and work towards achieving their financial goals.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to my boys, along with running my virtual bookkeeping business. It can be hectic at times and I have my hands full, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! I value the relationships I have built since I’ve been in business.
