Discover Bath, NC
North Carolina’s First Town and a Hidden Gem of History and Charm
Tucked away along the Pamlico River in eastern North Carolina, Bath is a hidden treasure with a rich past, scenic beauty, and small-town charm. As the state’s first incorporated town (1705) and first capital, Bath played a crucial role in North Carolina’s early history. From pirate lore to colonial landmarks, this quiet waterfront town offers a unique glimpse into the past while providing a peaceful getaway.
Bath was founded by European settlers in the late 1600s and became North Carolina’s first capital in 1705. The town quickly developed into a bustling port and trade center. One of its most famous residents was the notorious pirate Blackbeard, who made Bath his home in the early 18th century. He was even rumored to have been pardoned by Governor Charles Eden before his dramatic demise in 1718.
Over the years, Bath witnessed conflicts between settlers and the Tuscarora Native Americans, political unrest, and economic shifts, but it has managed to retain its colonial charm and historic significance. Today, it is a North Carolina Historic Site that offers visitors a chance to step back in time.
🏛 Historic Bath State Site – This collection of preserved colonial buildings includes historic homes, churches, and exhibits that tell the story of Bath’s early days.
⛪ St. Thomas Episcopal Church – Built in 1734, this is North Carolina’s oldest church, still standing with its original brickwork and historic graveyard.
🏡 Palmer-Marsh House (1744) – One of the town’s most well-preserved colonial homes, showcasing 18th-century architecture and period furnishings.
⚓ Van Der Veer House (1790s) – This historic house offers a glimpse into early Bath life and the town’s maritime connections.
Things to Do in Bath, NC
🚣 Explore the Pamlico River – Rent a kayak or boat to explore Bath Creek and the serene waters of the Pamlico River.

Why Visit Bath, NC?
Bath is perfect for history lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a quiet escape from modern hustle and bustle. What’s Happening in Wake County?
Wake County Schools Set 2025-2026 Budget Amid Growth and Debate
Wake County Public Schools recently finalized its 2025-2026 budget, boosting teacher salaries and mental health support to address the needs of its growing student body, now exceeding 160,000. A proposed school reassignment plan for the upcoming year has ignited community debate, especially in Apex and Wake Forest.
Crime in Wake County: Early 2025 Trends and County Actions
Wake County, NC, with a population of approximately 1.9 million presents a varied crime landscape in early 2025. Though safer than many U.S. regions, recent incidents and rapid growth keep safety a priority. As of March 15, 2025, county officials are tackling crime with a mix of enforcement and community-driven solutions.
Data from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office and Raleigh Police show stable crime rates into early 2025, with a modest rise in property crimes like theft and burglary. Violent crime remains low overall but spikes occasionally in urban areas—a February 2025 shooting in southeast Raleigh, injuring one, stirred local unease, though it was isolated. Suburban spots like Cary and Wake Forest report mostly minor issues like vandalism. With the county growing by about 60 residents daily, resource strain may be nudging these patterns, especially in busy zones like downtown Raleigh and Garner.
Sheriff Gerald Baker and local police are taking action. Raleigh has ramped up downtown patrols for St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, 2025) to curb festive disruptions. The Sheriff’s Office is using crime mapping to target “hot spots” and added 20 new deputies in early 2025, funded by a 2024 public safety budget increase.
Prevention is also key. The Sheriff’s Office restarted its Community Engagement Program in January 2025, holding forums in Knightdale and Rolesville. Apex is teaming with schools for youth mentorship to reduce juvenile offenses. In Raleigh, a new violence interruption program pairs social workers with police to tackle underlying issues like poverty and mental health.
Challenges linger. Growth-related zoning debates, such as in North Hills, spark speculation about future crime impacts. A March 2025 crash on US-1 in Apex underscored traffic safety woes. X posts reflect a split: some applaud police visibility, while others flag slow responses in spread-out areas like Wake Forest.
Wake County is banking on enforcement, tech, and community ties to manage crime. As growth continues, these efforts will test its ability to stay safe and welcoming in 2025.
Direct Flights to the Bahamas
Beginning in June, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) will resume direct flights to the Bahamas. Avelo Airlines will provide twice-weekly service, replacing the route previously operated by Bahamasair, which was discontinued last year.
NC - 540 Update
Construction is underway on the final segment of the NC-540 Triangle Expressway, which will complete the southern loop around Raleigh. The project is slated for completion by 2028, enhancing regional connectivity.
Historical Marker To Honor Enslaved Individuals
A historical marker has been placed to honor enslaved individuals buried at a former plantation site near Knightdale. This effort reflects the community's collective work to recognize and preserve this important part of local history.

My name is Monisha Majors and I am the proud owner of The Savvy Bookkeeper LLC, local to Wake Forest, NC. I’ve now been in business for two and a half years. I’m a certified QuickBooks Online advisor and I work exclusively with QuickBooks Online and service-based businesses. I provide monthly bookkeeping services; quarterly reviews; catch-up and clean-up projects; QuickBooks Online setup, diagnostic review, and both one-on-one and group training. I also enjoy guest speaking at functions/events and small business cohorts.
A little about myself, I married my college sweetheart (Go Wolfpack!) and we live in Wake Forest with our three adorable boys – ages 4, 2, and 6 months. I have a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and served some years as a finance officer in the Air Force. I then got a Masters in Human Services Counseling and ran a life coaching business for a few years along with teaching Elementary math at the private school attached to our local church. I have enjoyed all the things I’ve been able to put my hands to in both my educational and vocational endeavors, but nothing compares to partnering with my clients (local small business owners) and helping their businesses to stay complaint and work towards achieving their financial goals.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to my boys, along with running my virtual bookkeeping business. It can be hectic at times and I have my hands full, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! I value the relationships I have built since I’ve been in business. I may be a bit biased, but my clients are the absolute best!
I am currently taking new clients. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you!
